Fangirl Friday ~ A Discovery Of Witches

I got the advice from one of my friends to watch ‘A Discovery Of Witches‘ so I did. So far there is only one season with eight episodes, but I was hooked from the first episode. And I can highly recommend you see this series. It is based on a book series called All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. I am a bit late to the fandom, since the series premiered in 2018, but I don’t care I am hooked.

The storyline is about the reluctant witch Diana Bishop who is a professor at Yale. She is in Oxford on a research journey and she somehow get’s a hold of a missing book at the library. Scared as she finds the book to be under a spell she sends it back to the magazine. Soon a lot of creature’s are following her every step, the book has been lost for centuries and everyone wants it. Witches, demons and vampires. They thing it is the Book of Life.

Diana meets the charming Matthew Clairmont, a vampire. And he seems to be the only one that don’t threaten Diana. He intrigues her and she does something to him as well. Soon Diana is in over her head and magic is not so far gone as she would like it to be.

I have also started reading the books now and I am as hooked on the first book as I was on the tv-series. The next season of the series is suppose to be realised in January next year and I am looking forward to seeing it. But before that I will read the entire book series and I am thinking about buying the books for myself as a Christmas Present.

Matthew Goode plays Matthew Clairmont. This is an actor that I have seen and loved in Downton Abbey, Leap Year and Chasing Liberty. He is an fantastic actor and seeing him in this series just makes it so much better. I hope to see him in a lot more movies and tv-series in the future.

Diana Bishop is played by Teresa Palmer, a actress I don’t know a lot about. But she is as brilliant as Matthew Goode and the chemistry between the two is amazing. I hope to see her in a lot of movies in the future as well.

But one of the castings that I love is Alex Kingston as Diana Bishops aunt Sarah. Alex Kingston plays River Song in Doctor Who, and I am a big Doctor Who fan. So seeing her in this made me scream out loud.

I am looking forward to season two and I know I will probably rewatch season one a couple of times before that.

Have you seen the series? Have you read the books? What do you think about this story? Please let me now.

Not my day today..

It feels like everything that can mess with me is messing with me today. The computer have frozen on me a couple of times today. My usb-stick has locked down, so I can’t ad or change anything on it. I don’t really know how that happened, because I used it yesterday and everything was working like normal.

It’s been raining the whole day here, and this morning I put on the dogs their raincovers, because Zelda hates walking in the rain. This morning was no exception, she walked like 20 meters and then she had done all of her business and wanted to go inside again, but Oracle loves walking and does not care about the weather, so we continued walking. When I got in about 30 minutes later my shoes was wet all the way through as well as my jacket and pants. I also had to pissed of dogs, Zelda because she had to walk in the rain and Oracle because we did not walk as long as we usually does.

This is just a small part of my day. I will not share any more, because it feels like I am only whining, and I don’t want to do that. I have to say that I now have to really cozy dogs that want to cuddle and be close. And I have actually gotten some important things done today, so the day has not been to bad.

I wish you all an amazing Friday evening, and don’t forget that Taylor Swifts new album Lover now is out! I have been listening to it all day long.

The Voice UK

Since we moved here to Edinburgh, I been hooked on the Voice UK. I just love it. I missed one part so far, an I really don’t want to miss any more.

My favorite is Deana and I am so happy that she last night made it through to the live shows. She is an amazing singer and I really hope she wins the whole deal.

Here is her blind audition:

And here are her Battle against Peter Donegan (my nr two favorite).

And here are her Song last night in the KnockOuts. So glad she made it through!

And I have to say that I hope that Deana and Peter does more songs together in the future. They have a connection and I feel like they can have fun together while they do music. Just look at their performance together. They are having fun.

I deferentially want to hear more from Peter, as well, as a solo artist. He has an amazing voice and I am kind of mad at Tom for putting them together in the Knockouts. I wanted them booth to go through. Even though Deana is my favorite. I just hope that Peter will get the recognition he deserves and a record deal.

If you want to follow them on Instagram:

And to end, Good luck Deana with the continuing on the Voice. I am routing for you!

Fangirl Friday – 1 March

Time to post another Fangirl Friday post. Haven’t posted one of these since last year. But today is not going to be of my favourite movies, series or actors. Now today is going to be of movies I want to see.

First out is: What Men Want.
I have seen many trailers for this one and I think I could be hilarious. There are good actors and actresses in it and I hope I get to see it sometime this year. Maybe it will be available on Netflix? I can only hope.

Second out is: The Hustle
A movie with Anne Hathaway and Rebel Wilson… That just sounds great. And according to the trailer it really will be. I really want to watch this one.

Third out is: Avengers 4: Endgame
For those who know me… know that I am a big fan of Marvel. And I am kind of dreading watching this one, because I know I will cry. But I just really want to see it. I am planning a Marvel Movie Marathon for when I get home. And then I want to see this one.

Fourth out is: Detective Pikachu.
This one I want to watch because of nostalgia. I mean Pokémon was something that I remember from when I was a child. And I loved Pikachu. And now a movie with Ryan Renolds As Pikachu. Can it get better?

Last out is: Kingsman: The Secret Service
So I know this movie is older, but I still want to see it. It’s actually a recommendation from a friend to see it so I will. And I have actually only heard good things about the movie.

That’s it for today’s Fangirl Friday. Hopefully, I can post another post next Friday. Have a fantastic evening!

First week

I have now completed my first week at University in Edinburgh. And it feels kind of strange. I still miss home, but mostly my dogs. It’s hard not seeing them every day and yesterday was one of the hardest days because Oracle turned 6 years old yesterday. I hated not being there. Not taking her to her favourite pet-store where she would have picked out her favourite chews that I would have bought for her. But I know that she has had a wonderful day with my parents. And that they gave her the chews that she loves.

This week has been full of fun things to do, some a little harder than the rest. I can’t believe that we have been living here in Edinburgh for over a week. I know I have written about my first two days at University but I want to tell you about the rest of my week.

On Wednesday we got up quite early and ate breakfast. I had a headache, but when it had become light outside we walked to our nearest Tesco, about 24-30 minute walk away and did some shopping. Then we walked back to our apartment.

In the afternoon I had an International Student Welcome at Campus so I went there. It was a lot of information and I learned things that I think will be useful in the future here in Edinburgh for me.

On Thursday I had two lectures. On in the morning and then one in the afternoon. The first one in the morning was a Business Class with about 300 students in the class. We had the lecture in a really big lecture hall. The Professor was really interesting to listen to and I think I will enjoy this class a lot. Even if I think that it can be challenging at times.

Heriot Watt University

After the lecture I had four hours before my next lecture began, so I met up with my husband and had some lunch. Then we went to the pop-up bookstore that is on campus for two weeks to buy some course literature, but they didn’t have one of the books. The staff was so nice so they called their bookstore in the city centrum a have them put a copy aside for me.

With more than two hours left before my lecture, my husband and I explored the Campus area and just spent some time together. My last lecture of the day was amazing. It was interesting and fun, and I am already looking forward to the next Thursday so I can go to the lecture again.

On Friday we took the bus into Princes Street in the morning. We went shopping in Primark on Princes Street and I found some really nice things. After that, we went to Lothian Buse’s office and bought bus cards, so we no longer need to have change for every bus ride. And then we went to the bookstore and got the book that was set aside for me and some other things.

I was really tired when we got home, but after lunch, I set out to sort out the reading I had to do for my lectures and make a schedule for my classes. And then I noticed that I had missed buying one book. So we decided to go to the city centre again on Saturday.

Our new favorite walks.

On Saturday I woke up not feeling my best, I think my nerves got the best of me. So instead of hopping on a bus into the city centre, we decided to take a small walk in the area around our apartment. The small walk became a 70 minutes walk. Then when we got back to the apartment we ate some lunch and then we took a bus into the city. It was a bit cold and windy. We hopped off the bus and walked a new way to the bookstore. At the bookstore, we bought the book that was missing for my class and then we walked to Princess Street. We walked into TK Maxx, but it was so crowded so we left almost directly. Instead, we walked to Primark here I bought some things again.. I am wondering if I should make a post about what I have bought. We will see. Then we took the tram out to Gyle Shopping Center because here they have the Disney Store. As some of you might know I love Disney. We bought a blanket and a Christmas ornament and then we walked around some in the shopping centre before we did some shopping at Morrison. Then we took the next bus home and had a nice evening eating some good food, talking and finally watching the Voice UK on the telly.

Today I am going to study and get ready for the week. I wish you all a wonderful Sunday!

Tova Leigh ~ WCW

This week’s Women Crush Wednesday is all about Tova Leigh. Many of you might now know her. But she is an inspirational woman that has given me so much hope for the future and that I am beautiful just the way I am.

Some of the reasons why she is this weeks WCW:

  • She doesn’t take shit from anyone.
  • She is brutally honest, about parenthood, about being a woman. Well, literally everything.
  • She started something that she calls: MOM LIFE CRISIS. She literally films herself doing things she always wanted to do: like bungy jumping and pole dancing.
  • She does videos of herself and sometimes with her husband doing things other people have done, but she/they do it a little different. She tags it: nailedit. They are hilarious.
  • She makes me laugh.
  • And she posts things that make you question life, in a good way.

You can follow her on: Instagram, Facebook and Youtube.

I also want to share with you how I found her. I was having a really bad day at campus, with panic attacks and anxiety that was crippling me. My lecture for the day had ended and I was sitting at a table waiting for my husband to get off work so we could drive home. And that was about 3 hours away. I had my headphones on and was scrolling on facebook trying to keep my mind occupied. And a friend of my had shared a video that Tova had posted. I watched it and I laugh. I then went on her page and started watching what she had shared. And all the sudden my husband called saying he was on his way. Her page literally saved mine from a big panic attack. And I have followed her since that day.

This one is so funny. I don’t have kids, but I just love it.

First episode of mom life crisis:

Just watch her videos and I promise you will laugh and feel understood. And Tova, if you by any chance reads this, thank you for all that you share with us. You are amazing and fantastic. And I am looking forward to many more funny nailedit videos and other fun things. And the new Mom Life Crisis video about the trip to Nepal and Everest. And basically anything you post.

Iron Man ~ Fangirl Friday

So with the recent death of Stan Lee, I wanted to change today’s planned post to a post that honours him. And because I wrote about Stan Lee the other day I thought it was fitting that I today write about Iron Man. A character that Stan Lee created with Larry Lieber, Don Heck and Jack Kirby.

I want to write about the first Iron Man movie that came out in 2008.

Iron Man is about Tony Stark, billionaire and playboy. He is the son of Howard Stark, a legendary inventor. Tony Stark is going to give a weapons presentation to a unit in Iraqi, but his Humvee is attacked and Tony is taken, hostage. He is hurt and to survive he must have a car battery attached to his heart. He figures out a way to make the battery smaller and now Iron Man is born. He escapes and back in at home he starts building a better Iron Man suit. But someone wants to take Stark Industries technology and use it for something.

“Iron Man. That’s kind of catchy. It’s got a nice ring to it. I mean it’s not technically accurate. The suit’s a gold titanium alloy, but it’s kind of provocative, the imagery anyway.” ~ Tony Stark (when reading the Newspaper)

Tony Stark is portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. and his assistant Pepper Potts is portrayed by Gwyneth Paltrow.

Stan Lee has a cameo in this movie like he does in many other Marvel movies. Watch it here:

Stan Lee’s cameo in Iron Man (2008)

I love the Iron Man movies, because much like the tagline: “Heroes aren’t born. They’re built.” I feel like everyone can become a hero. And we all need heroes in our lives. And there are many different kinds of heroes. You can be someone who to stand up for those who doesn’t have a voice. Or someone who saves animals that doesn’t have a home. Or a firefighter. A policeman. A doctor. Someone who fights for human rights.

I also love Iron Man because I think the story is brilliant. I love watching Marvel movies and tv-show because I feel like it’s quality in the production and the storylines are interesting and different.

If you haven’t watched Iron Man yet, its about time to do so now…

Rest in peace, Stan Lee

Yesterday I saw on the news that Stan Lee had passed away 95 years old. Most people know who he was, at least the people who live comic-series and Marvel knows how he was.

He was a man with great imagination and have given us so many wonderful characters. He was a true entertainer. And I know that he has helped so many people with his stories.

“I used to be embarrassed because I was just a comic-book writer while other people were building bridges or going on to medical careers. And then I began to realize: entertainment is one of the most important things in people’s lives. Without it they might go off the deep end. I feel that if you’re able to entertain people, you’re doing a good thing.” – Stan Lee

Here is a list of some of the characters he created:

Stan Lee created together with Jack Kirby booth The AvengersX-Men and Fantastic Four.

“I wanted them to be diverse. The whole underlying principle of the X-Men was to try to be an anti-bigotry story to show there’s good in every person.” – Stan Lee

Even though he could have retired a long time ago he still kept on working.

“Most people say, “I can’t wait to retire so I can play golf,” or go yachting or whatever they do. Well, if I was playing golf, I would want that to finish so I could go and dream up a new TV show.” – Stan Lee

And almost all who watch Marvel movies know that Stan Lee has Cameos in the movies. Watch here:

Excelsior is a thing that Stan Lee always said. And this is what he means:

“You know, my motto is ‘Excelsior.’ That’s an old word that means ‘upward and onward to greater glory.’ It’s on the seal of the state of New York. Keep moving forward, and if it’s time to go, it’s time. Nothing lasts forever.” – Stan Lee

ISome other things that Stan Lee has said that I just love:

“The more you read, the better you’re going to become as a storyteller.” – Stan Lee

“I don’t know where the hell I’ll be in five years. Maybe I’ll be producing movies maybe I’ll be on a corner selling apples. I don’t know, but I’m having a hell of a lot of fun.” – Stan Lee

[Being a ‘geek’] has become a badge of honor. It’s geeks who really make or break a TV show or movie or video game. They’re the ones who are passionate about these things and who collect [the paraphernalia] and talk about them. A geek is really somebody interested in communication and entertainment and [finding] the best way to avail himself or herself to it..” – Stan Lee

“Life is never completely without its challenges.” – Stan Lee

Rest in Peace Stan Lee. And thank you for the stories. You will forever live on in our favourite heroes and their stories.
