Fangirl Friday ~ A Discovery Of Witches

I got the advice from one of my friends to watch ‘A Discovery Of Witches‘ so I did. So far there is only one season with eight episodes, but I was hooked from the first episode. And I can highly recommend you see this series. It is based on a book series called All Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness. I am a bit late to the fandom, since the series premiered in 2018, but I don’t care I am hooked.

The storyline is about the reluctant witch Diana Bishop who is a professor at Yale. She is in Oxford on a research journey and she somehow get’s a hold of a missing book at the library. Scared as she finds the book to be under a spell she sends it back to the magazine. Soon a lot of creature’s are following her every step, the book has been lost for centuries and everyone wants it. Witches, demons and vampires. They thing it is the Book of Life.

Diana meets the charming Matthew Clairmont, a vampire. And he seems to be the only one that don’t threaten Diana. He intrigues her and she does something to him as well. Soon Diana is in over her head and magic is not so far gone as she would like it to be.

I have also started reading the books now and I am as hooked on the first book as I was on the tv-series. The next season of the series is suppose to be realised in January next year and I am looking forward to seeing it. But before that I will read the entire book series and I am thinking about buying the books for myself as a Christmas Present.

Matthew Goode plays Matthew Clairmont. This is an actor that I have seen and loved in Downton Abbey, Leap Year and Chasing Liberty. He is an fantastic actor and seeing him in this series just makes it so much better. I hope to see him in a lot more movies and tv-series in the future.

Diana Bishop is played by Teresa Palmer, a actress I don’t know a lot about. But she is as brilliant as Matthew Goode and the chemistry between the two is amazing. I hope to see her in a lot of movies in the future as well.

But one of the castings that I love is Alex Kingston as Diana Bishops aunt Sarah. Alex Kingston plays River Song in Doctor Who, and I am a big Doctor Who fan. So seeing her in this made me scream out loud.

I am looking forward to season two and I know I will probably rewatch season one a couple of times before that.

Have you seen the series? Have you read the books? What do you think about this story? Please let me now.

Love, Nea

Christmas Gift Ideas for children

I always think its hard to get presents for children. Because every child want different things and it’s hard to know what is the right thing to get. I don’t have children and as an aunt I am boring. because I love buying my nephews and nieces books. But here are some ideas that I think are appropriately whenever, and it’s not just books. And this is not an ad.

My first tip is something that’s called Moonlite. It’s a storybook projector for your mobile phone. It turns storytime into something magical. And here you can buy different packs, with different stories. I know there are a Disney pack, a Fairytale pack and a Very Hungry Caterpiller pack that you can buy. And you can also buy stories separately.

My second tip is Cubcoats. A Cubcoat is a comfy hoody and a cuddly toy in one. There are available in many different characters. Both original characters like Flynn the fox and Pimm the puppy. But also already famous characters like Minne and Micky Mouse, Bob the minion and Marvel’s Spider-Man. Not only is the product a way to give the children fantasy a boast, but Cubcoats also partnered with Baby2Baby to help low-income children. Read more about it here.

A present that I always appreciated when I was a child, no who am I kidding, I love to get it now too, is Disney Movies. As a Disney fan, I feel like this is a great gift. Why not give a Disney movie as a gift an make it into movie night with the kids. I will not link a store here, because I think you can buy a Disney move almost anywhere.

The fourth tip for a gift for children is Lego and Duplo depending on the age of the child. There are lots of different sets you can buy and I think any toystore have them in stock. I found both Lego and Duplo on Amazon. And in Sweden, you can buy Lego and Duplo on BR. I love these two toys because it can help children with keeping their imagination alive. They can build a castle or a ship. Or whatever they can think of.

And my fifth tip is the Coloring Without Borders Coloring Book.  It’s sold on Families Belong Together and all the proceeds go to Families Belong Together, that is a movement that all Families belong together. You can read more about it here. The Coloring Book is really cool because the text is in both English and Spanish. And the child decides what she/he should paint.

And my last tip is the two books Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls: 100 tales of extraordinary women and Good Night Stories for Rebel Girls Volume 2  by Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo. Volume 1 in English here and Swedish here. And volume 2 in English here and Swedish here. Or a boxed set in English here. In the clip down below you will see why I think we need to give this books to our daughters, nieces and all children.

I hope you liked my gift ideas for children. And that it maybe gave you some ideas. This is not an ad. Have an amazing day.

Harry Potter part 2 ~ Fangirl Friday

I know… I wrote about Harry Potter last week also. But I feel like there are so much to be said about Harry Potter and I am a big fan. Also, I wrote this week WCW about J.K. Rowling and I thought it was appropriate to write about Harry Potter again.

Because I concentrated on the first book and movie I decided that today I would write about the second part of the Harry Potter Series. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

Here is the trailer for the movie:

One of my favourite parts of the book is this one:

‘I seem to remember telling you both that I would have to expel you if you broke any more school rules,’ said Dumbledore. Ron opened his mouth wide in horror.
‘Which only goes to show that the best of us must sometimes eat our words,’ Dumbledore went on, smiling.

And also when Dumbledore says this to Harry:

“It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.”

And of course, it’s in this book and movie that Dobby is introduced for the first time. At first infuriating little thing, but when you get his backstory you can’t do anything else than to love him.

Here is when Harry makes Dobby a free house-elf.

I think I might just have to have a Harry Potter marathon soon. Both with the books and the movies.

J. K. Rowling – WCW

This week WCW is J. K. Rowling. If you don’t know who she is you must be living under a rock. As the writer behind the Harry Potter books and Fantastic Beasts and where you can find them, she is world known. But how many people now all the reasons that she is a role model? Here are 10 of my reasons why she is my role model:

  1. She worked up from nothing to being, like I wrote earlier, world known. I think most people know that she was living on welfare before she became famous. When she wrote Harry Potter, she was depressed and a single mom.
  2. She never gave up on her dreams, even though many publishers rejected her Harry Potter books. She just kept going.
  3. She stands up for what she believes in. Just look at her twitter.
  4. She never forgets her fans. Always having a dialogue with them on Twitter. Or writing on Pottermore.
  5. She is the first author in the world to have a net worth of 1 billion, that she then lost when she donated money to charity.
  6. She founded a charity that helps orphans to find homes and she named it after the light giving spell from Harry Potter, Lumos.
  7. She doesn’t romanticise the bad guy in her books. Just look at Draco Malfoy. J.K. Rowling has been very clear to her fans that he does not have a heart of gold an that he will not become friends with Harry in the end. He is one of the bad guys.
  8. Her female characters are strong women who stand up for themselves. And they have strong opinions and they are independent. Just look at Hermione, McGonagall, Mrs Weasley, GinnyTina, Queenie and so many more of the female characters from her books.
  9. J.K. Rowling is also a big inspiration to millions of people because of the books she has written. The books are amazing and filled with so many wonderful lessons that we need. And they help inspire people to read and to go out in the world an make a difference.
  10. She is an advocate for LGBT rights. She said that Dumbledore was gay.

Some of my favourite quotes of J.K Rowling:

“Anything’s possible if you’ve got enough nerve.”

“If you want to see the true measure of a man, watch how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.”

“It is impossible to live without failing at something unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all, in which case you have failed by default.”

What’s your favourite thing that J. K. Rowling has written or said?

Harry Potter ~ Fangirl Friday

Because I wrote about Emma Watson on Wednesday for my WCW post, I decided to write one post about Harry Potter. I love Harry Potter, both the books and the movies.

I can still remember when I read my first Harry Potter book. I couldn’t put it down. I loved how J. K. Rowlings pulled me into this magical world and how amazing her writing was. I still read the books when I get the chance.

And the movies are amazing too. I feel like they have been made in such a way that you aren’t disappointed after reading the books and then watching the movies.

One of my favourite quotes from the book: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

“There are all kinds of courage,” said Dumbledore, smiling. “It takes a great deal of bravery to stand up to our enemies, but just as much to stand up to our friends.”

This was something that I took to heart and I really needed to read this at the time. To stand up to your friends aren’t easy but sometimes necessary.

I will always love Harry Potter. And one of my goals is to visit Harry Potters World in London and of course Platform 9¾ at King’s Cross Station in London. I didn’t have the tie when I was in London this summer.

One other favourite quote from the first Harry Potter book is this:

“The truth.”  Dumbledore sighed. “It is a beautiful and terrible thing, and should therefore be treated with great caution. However, I shall answer your questions unless I have a very good reason not to, in which case I beg you’ll forgive me. I shall not, of course, lie.”

I believe that if you ask a lot of people my age most of them have read a Harry Potter book or at least watched a movie. And many people have probably read all the books and watched all the movies. I hope I get a chance to read the books again this winter. I love to curl up on the sofa under a blanket and with a cup of hot chocolate and read a good book.

Here is a clip from the first movie. Where Harry meets both Ron and Hermione:

Just watching this clip down below gives me nostalgia. Anyone else?

I will probably write more about the wizarding world that Harry Potter lives in at some time. Maybe even this month, but not right now.

Have an amazing Friday!
